02.04.2025 - In der spielbox 7/24 beschäftigte sich unser Autor Harald Schrapers in seinem Text „Kolonialismus – museal oder aktuell“ mit der Dortmunder Ausstellung „Das ist kolonial“. Dort wurden auch Brettspiele ausgestellt. Die Themenwahl für das neue Spiel Cook Island sah Schrapers kritisch wegen des namensgebenden Seefahrers James Cook, „der die Grundlagen für das britische Kolonialreich gelegt hat.” Dem widersprachen der Verlag Trefl SA und Spieleautor Klaus-Jürgen Wrede in einer Stellungnahme in spielbox 2/2025.

Schrapers was critical of the choice of theme for the new game Cook Island because of the eponymous navigator James Cook, “who laid the foundations for the British colonial empire.” The publisher Trefl SA and game designer Klaus-Jürgen Wrede contradicted this in a statement in spielbox 2/2025.
