_____

Despite the pandemic (which does not refer to the game of the same name), the "Spiel des Jahres" jury had recently confirmed that on the whole, they were able to try out the current game vintage, although some of the late releases would have to wait until next year. Therefore nothing stood in the way of the nominations for the award of 2020, and the finalists have just been announced. This time it was necessary to limit the event to a smaller setting due to the accompanying circumstances, so the association's chairman Harald Schrapers and the children's games jury coordinator Christoph Schlewinski presented the final round online.

Competitors for the main "Spiel des Jahres" award are My City by Reiner Knizia (publisher: Kosmos), Nova Luna by Uwe Rosenberg and Corné van Moorsel (Edition Spielwiese / Pegasus Spiele) as well as Pictures by Daniela and Christian Stöhr (PD-Verlag).

The "Kennerspiel des Jahres" (connoisseur game of the year) award for experienced players will either go to Cartographers by Jordy Adan (Pegasus Spiele), The Crew by Thomas Sing (Kosmos) or The King's Dilemma by Lorenzo Silva, Hjalmar Hach and Carlo Burelli (Horrible Guild / HeidelBÄR Games).

Nominees for the "Kinderspiel des Jahres" trophy for the best children's game are Foto Fish by Michael Kallauch (Logis), Speedy Roll by Urtis Šulinskas (Piatnik) and Wir sind die Roboter by Reinhard Staupe (Nürnberger-Spielkarten-Verlag).

Other entries made it onto the lists of recommended games, found here (currently only in German) along with the juries' comments on the current year and details on the individual games.

The "Kinderspiel des Jahres" award ceremony is scheduled for June 15th; this will be an online-only event, but game designers will be connected via video. The "Spiel des Jahres" and "Kennerspiel des Jahres" winners will follow on July 20th.
