15.12.2023 - Carcassonne-Schöpfer Klaus-Jürgen Wrede und Schmidt Spiele laden im Frühjahr zu einem neuen Abenteuer im Tolkien-Universum ein: In Der Herr der Ringe – Der Ringträger schlüpfen drei bis vier Spielende ab zehn Jahren in die Rollen von Frodo Beutlin und dessen Gefährten, die über Landschaftsplättchen die lange Reise nach Mordor antreten, um den "einen Ring" zu vernichten, die Quelle der Macht des Schurken Sauron. Dabei müssen sich alle der Anziehungskraft des Rings erwehren, sonst verfällt nämlich jemand dem Bösen und spielt ab da mit einem "Dunklen Deck" von Karten gegen den Rest der Gruppe.

Auf ihrer Spur sind die Nazgul, die neun Ringgeister - wenn diese die Gefährten erreichen, ist die Partie verloren. Nur wenn es die Heldengruppe zum Schicksalsberg schafft, gewinnt sie. Als Gimmick liegt dem Spiel ein echter Ring bei, den sich der oder die aktuelle Ringträger/in wie Frodo um den Hals hängen kann. Gespielt wird kooperativ, wobei Handkarten teils sichtbar und teils nur für die Mitspielenden sichtbar gehalten werden. Für ein ungewöhnliches kooperatives Spielerlebnis soll laut Schmidt sorgen, dass man auch die Handkarten seiner Gefährten ausspielen darf und nicht alle eigenen Karten kennt. Eine Partie dauert rund 45 Minuten, die Preisempfehlung liegt bei 31,99 €.

Ebenfalls im Frühling erscheint eine Zweispieler-Variante des „Kennerspiels des Jahres 2018“: In Die Quacksalber von Quedlinburg – Das Duell lässt Autor Wolfgang Warsch zwei Konkurrenten ab zehn Jahren mit magischen Heiltränken um den Titel des Gildenmeisters wetteifern. Insgesamt wollen elf Patienten davon überzeugt werden, dass die eigene Medizin die richtige für sie ist und sie deshalb an den jeweiligen Marktstand kommen. In jeder Runde ziehen die Quacksalber Zutaten aus ihrem Beutel und brauen daraus in Flaschen ihre Zaubertränke. Wie die Kessel im Originalspiel können aber auch die Flaschen bei zu vielen Knallerbsen explodieren. Nach dem Brauen gilt es außerdem noch, das Gegenüber geschickt auszuspielen, indem man einschätzt, wer sich für einen Bonus oder das Angebot entscheidet. Schmidt empfiehlt für die Neuheit einen Preis von 23,99 €. (th)

In spring, Carcassonne creator Klaus-Jürgen Wrede and Schmidt Spiele invite to a new adventure in the Tolkien universe: In Der Herr der Ringe – Der Ringträger (provisionally translated The Lord of the Rings - the Ring Bearer), three to four players aged ten and up take on the roles of Frodo Baggins and his companions, embarking on the long journey to Mordor via landscape tiles in order to destroy the "one ring", the source of the villain Sauron's power. In doing so, they all have to fend off the pull of the ring, otherwise someone might fall prey to evil and start playing a "dark deck" of cards against the rest of the group. On their trail are the Nazgul, the nine ringwraiths - if they reach the companions, the game is lost. Only if the group of heroes makes it to Mount Doom will they win. As a gimmick, the game comes with a real ring the current bearer can hang around their neck, just as Frodo did in the story. The game is played cooperatively, with some cards visible and some only visible to the other players. According to Schmidt, the fact that one can also play the cards in one's companions' hands and doesn't know all of one's own cards makes for an unusual cooperative playing experience. A game lasts around 45 minutes, the recommended retail price is € 31.99.

Another new spring release is a two-player version of the "Kennerspiel des Jahres 2018" winner: In Die Quacksalber von Quedlinburg - Das Duell, author Wolfgang Warsch has two competitors aged ten and up vying for the title of guild master with magical healing potions. A total of eleven patients need to be convinced that the players' own medicine is the right one for them, leading them to the respective market stall. In each round, the quacks draw ingredients from their bag and use them to brew their potions in bottles. Like the cauldrons in the original game, however, bottles can explode if there are too many fiery components. After brewing, both sides also have to cleverly play off their opponent by guessing who'll opt for a bonus or an offer instead. Schmidt recommends a price of € 23.99.
