(th)

Similar to the German "Spiel des Jahres", there's been a jury prize for board games in the U.S. since 2019, the American Tabletop Awards (ATTA), chosen by a ten-member committee. The winners for 2022 have now been announced, divided into four categories. In the "early gamers" segment for beginners, Happy City by Toshiki Sato and Airu Sato, published by Gamewright, took the top spot, beating the two other nominated titles Hammer Time and Block Ness. The jury also gave recommendations to Crash Octopus and Kabuto Sumo.

In the second category "casual games", the award went to Cubitos by John D. Clair (publisher: Alderac). The winner was followed by the nominees 7 Wonders: Architects and Summer Camp, with The Crew: Mission Deep Sea and Whirling Witchcraft garnering recommendations.

Among strategy games, Cascadia by Randy Flynn (Flatout) scored highest ahead of the other nominees Hadrian's Wall and Brew. Furnace and Genotype: A Mendelian Genetics Game earned recommendations.

As the fourth category, "complex games" revolved around more challenging entries. Here the jury favored Lost Ruins of Arnak, created by Elwen and Mín (Czech Games Edition). It beat the nominated Sleeping Gods and Oath: Chronicles of Empire and Exile. The committee further recommended Bitoku and Origins: First Builders.
